I don't think I'll be updating this blog anymore. It has served me long and well (3 years!) and it brings back many fond memories. I won't be deleting this blog since I like to look though my old posts :) Some of them I laugh at, some of them I get annoyed at but they're the best and only document of the last 3 years I have.

Post O Levels euphoria

The past 6 days have been both absolutely wonderful and terrifyingly scary.

I got the results I always dreamed of (never dared to dream about an A1 for Higher Chinese anyway). Freaked out a lot in the morning because I heard Joy got a call to go back to school from the general office and thought I didn't get 9 A1s. What I didn't realise was that that didn't include normal Chinese. Phew.

Then I had to make a decision about the JC I want to go to. Chose RJ in the end, after leaning towards HC for the better part of the year. I'm starting to think about all the scary stuff like being the last in class, not being able to cope academically, etc. I didn't think of that at all while submitting my choices. But I guess toughing it out for 2 years is worth it if I can get a scholarship to an overseas university. :/

Went out with Yiling to treat her to lunch (she'll treat me back if we both get into RJ, fingers crossed). I bought Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti, The Beach Boy's Pet Sounds and Jason Mraz's Live on Earth from HMV on the way to Suntec City. I wanted to go to Oosters but it closed down ): Ended up at Tony Rama's, which was good, except the portions were huge. I bought a cute tulip-shaped skirt at Topshop, making my first ever real purchase from there. I read this mens' guide to clothes at Kinokuniya while Yiling looked at makeup books. I'm pretty glad I'm not a guy, because there are about a hundred rules per article of clothing.

My family celebrated my results at Lei Garden at CHIJMES. Wonderfully apt, in my opinion. The campus is beyond gorgeous and I wished I had studied there ): The dinner was fantastic but insanely expensive. We had this abalone dish with foie gras. Yummmmmy :)

Cirque du Freak was okay, I didn't hate it or love it. I read the first two books of the series beforehand. So I went HUH at the stuff (I assume) is from the third book which I haven't read, which made it quite confusing when it came to the vampire/vampaneze conflict. Chris Massoglia's quite nice to look at though. ;)

I loved some stories in New York, I Love You. Some left me WTF-ing and some I just hated. I don't really like how they tried to link all the stories with the girl filming New York. I think I liked Paris, Je T'aime better.

Invictus was yet another movie based off on the let's-inspire-people-to-something-better/feel good mould. I know it's a true story and I thought the message was great, it was just that the pacing sucked (it was too darn slow), the entire movie was predictable and Matt Damon's hair was especially ugly. And I hate rugby.

I loved loved loved loved It's Not Me, I Swear! I loved the pacing, how it was so stunning visually, I loved how insane Leon's antics were, but how I could still relate to him and how the funny parts were incredibly hilarious. I need this movie on DVD. So far, best movie I've watched in 2010, but the year's barely started. ;)

2010 is already shaping up to be better than 2009. Let's hope it stays that way.

I haven't been doing anything! (proud smile) Other than watching a lot of TV. I've watched a few movies. I just came back home from watching An Education in the cinema and I thought it was brillant, except for the ending. I also watched Prison Break S4, House S5, Heroes S3, Dexter S1 and True Blood S1.

I disliked Prison Break and Dexter (thought Prison Break was such a letdown after the brillance of S1, just declined from there, in my opinion; Dexter I found too slow and didn't like the characters :/ ), liked Heroes and True Blood, loved House and Pushing Daisies. True Blood gets extra props for having Alexander Skargard as a cast member ;)

Can't wait for S2 of True Blood to be released on DVD. More Eric!

I'm looking forward to watching Cirque du Freak, Invictus, Up In The Air, Brothers, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus and a few others I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting right now. But for tomorrow, I'll be watching Avatar in 3D for the second time. It's such a visual treat, and I'm not just thinking of the animation. Sam Worthington is gorgeous :)

Recently, the only thing that gets me out of bed in the mornings is the thought of a yummy breakfast. Coupled with inactivity (my daily schedule reads: eat, watch TV, use the computer, sleep) and the fact that Bishan Park is closed for some kind of reconstruction, I'm getting a bit concerned.

Life after O Levels is bliss

Monday was New Moon day with the vampires (aka Abii, Yiling, Crystal and Debbie). Laughed at rpattz's failed imitation at being brooding and sexy, swooned at Taylor Lautner's wonderful abs and generally annoyed the entire theatre by having the wrong responses to everything.

Tuesday/Wednesday was the sleepover where we OD-ed on TV. House, Milk, Give My Regards to Broad Street (couldn't even finish it), Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and A Hard Day's Night. Managed to convince Abii of Keith Moon's and the Beatles' awesomeness. Jump shots with Debbie on my balcony and creeping prom pictures on Facebook.

If you want to be successful in life, you gotta push.

Gold Coast was so fun! It'll be too exhausting to type out in full chronological order, so I'll just put it in point form:

Tangalooma: sand tobogganing, ATVs, wild dolphins and the amazing beach.
Saw an accident on the highway. The cars actually moved out of the way for the ambulances. It shouldn't be a surprising sight, but it was.
Tasted wines at ILNAM Winery in Tweeds Heads, NSW. I'm well on my way to being an alcoholic, judging by the fact I liked the wine with the highest alcohol content the best.
Went down to Point Danger. New South Wales/Queensland border with an amazing beach with surfers surfing.
There was this guy at Superbee who was really passionate about his bees who showed us how they rob the hive.
Hugging koalas and rollercoasters at Dream World.
Keith Moon's shirt, Elvis' pants and a Beatles gallery at Hard Rock Cafe!!!!! And seeing a Schoolie strip on a balcony was pretty interesting too.
So I was running for the lift and shouted "Wait!!!!" (assuming that the lift would be mostly empty) and faced an elevator's worth of human beings packed liked sardines. When one ang moh teenager said we could still squeeze me in, I told them that I had to wait for the rest of my 5 member family. Then another ang moh teen said, "If you wanna be successful in life, you gotta push." Hahahahahahahahahahahha
Springbrook National Park. Saw 1500 year old trees and a natural waterfall and a cave with glow worms. Slightly humid, but cooling. In other words, the most amazing walk I've ever taken.
Star gazing in a random field.
A Superman rollercoaster, the Gotham City cafe (ate "The Bat"), a Bat shop with a lot of Batman merchandise, a guy in a Batman suit and general awesomeness at Movieworld. Freezing too, considering it's supposed to be summer. I was so psyched. C:
Got my bag checked while leaving City Beach. It was hilarious since I got a huge shock by the guy speaking (wasn't expecting to hear an unfamiliar voice asking for my bag) and scared my sister into thinking I had embarrasing or illict things in her Patrick bag. (By Patrick bag I mean the Spongebob one. It literally is a bag-sized soft toy with an opening large enough to put in a phone and some cash.) After leaving, I said to my sister, "What could I possibly put in Patrick? Marijuana?" Then she told me, "Don't say that so loudly, or the Schoolies will rob you." WIN. C:
Visited the world's largest tropical fruit farm, tasted a lot of fruits I can't even remember the names of, cracked a macadamia nut and ate it on the spot, feeding a greedy-ass horse who snatched the entire packet of oats from my hand, bottle-feeding a calf, feeding ducks on a boat and seeing a wild koala.
Shopping at Harbourtown. Bought Who Are You for SGD$10 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), Milk and The Who Live at the Isle of Wright, Keds for AUD$20, cute shirts and an amazing bag in the shape of a gumball dispenser.
Went to Video Ezy and got True Blood and Dexter.
Watched 500 Days of Summer and Valentino: The Last Emperor on the plane while nursing a bad case of diarrhoea.

Despite starting off the trip with a bad omen (wiped out the contents of my iPod thanks to the stupid iTunes system and forgot to bring my new headphones), Gold Coast, filled with Schoolies and in all its touristyness turned out to be amazing fun. I loved the activities, I was amused by the tour group (putting a little kid on a monkey leash, for starters) and I'd go back in a heartbeat, despite the horrible hotel looking like no one's touched it since the '80s and the horrible toilet smelling like drunk puke.

I realise my blog's somewhat abandoned right now, but when you have the luxury of being tired enough of shopping to not want to go out anymore, the internet seems somewhat boring in comparison.

In the past two weeks, I've finished doing the O Levels, had my hopes severely dashed, finished watching Pushing Daisies Season 2 and Prison Break Season 4, bought my new Sennheiser HD238 headphones, been to every shopping centre I like in Singapore, cut my hair for the first time in over a year, attended prom, slept over at a hotel without my parents for the first time and caught up on my sleep.

The reason I'm using the computer is to re-rip all of my CDs and make them pretty in time for my flight to Australia tomorrow night. I probably should have started a little earlier, since I have about, oh, I don't know, only about a hundred CDs to rip, but being the great procrastinator that I am... I haven't even packed. x.x Besides the time factor, I'm facing a little bit of a crisis. Apparently I don't have enough underwear to last me for a week without washing.

I wish I could get a guitar like that just for fun

Interesting things that happened today:

I do not know how to apply sunblock properly. I am doomed to be tan.
I bought Highway to Hell and Back in Black. I am slowly falling in love with AC/DC. Yes, I know I'm late to the party. But I had horrible taste in music when I was 13. Slipknot, Korn, Sum 41... I shudder to recall the torture I enforced on my ears.
I also bought a Fujiya & Miyagi album. So so good. :)
Saw a sex shop at People's Park Centre.
Also saw Serene at some tour agency. What a coincidence! I gave her a fright though by screaming her name x.x
Booked our trip to Gold Coast with Chan Brothers!!!!!!!! I'm also crossing my fingers that we will go to Hong Kong over the CNY break. (We were all very interested in South Africa too. Perhaps another holiday :)

The Newpaper/Urban has run some very weird articles on the modelling industry recently. There was one about how male models were lining up in droves in Milan to get jobs. But Josh Beech doesn't even need to go for castings and he makes it into JPG, Kenzo and Theirry Mugler. I suppose Paris is not Milan but really, how different can they get? Unless models don't get paid in Paris.

Then there was this thing about how female "models" were asked to sleep with lecherous men to get jobs. Umm... It's weird because I'd be significantly more worried if I were a male model.

Like how this guy looks way too happy about having his hands down Julius' pants. Maybe I'm thinking too much about the picture (this is what doing too many source based questions does to you), or maybe I just wanted to use a picture of Julius. But there is no denying that smile on that guy's face!

I just realised my love of watching diving. I was supposed to sleep at 12.30a.m. but I ended up watching diving until 2a.m.. ): 10m platform synchro is amazing to watch, even if the two China boys are scarily muscular. Zhang Yanquan is actually in Singapore for the AYG, which is freaking cool. It seems kind of pointless to even have the competition if he's in it, he is that good. I think he beat Matt Mitcham in Madrid?

Just realised that the MTV Movie Awards took place today when I got to school. Can't find it on TV though. ): MTV Singapore: please play the awards so that I can admire Chris Fine and ZQ. What I can't understand is why they didn't present an award together. Star Trek PR people, what are you doing? I don't even know who he presented with. Anna Faris, whut?

As far as I know, they're not even professionally related. And ZQ > random blond "actress". A hundred billion times. At least ZQ wasn't wearing some ugly ass garbage bag trying to pass off as a dress.

Looking on the bright side though, apparently Audrina Patridge said that she was single (according to someone on ontd_startrek, which is the most awesome LJ community, by the way)! THERE IS A HIGHER POWER.

I know this is being sucked into the black hole that is Perez Hilton or whatever but him trying to force celebrities out of the closet is incredibly infuriating.

He makes me lose faith in humanity. What does it matter either way? To be honest I'm more concerned that Chris Pine was linked to Audrina Patridge. But anyway, ZQ is fab. End of story.

STAR TREK WAS EVEN MORE AWESOME THE SECOND TIME AROUND. Now I wanna watch it a third time. Then I wanna buy the DVD when it comes out. I love the ridiculously good-looking cast (hey Chris Pine/Karl Urban/Eric Bana/ZQ), I love Bones (I may throw up on you~), I love baby!Spock (omg cutest kid ever?), I love Chekov and his Russian accent and just aslkjasflkjadflj AWESOME.

I also bought 2 Jason Mraz CDs today and a few new pens from Kinokuniya (some of them are ~sparkly~), so basically I have some motivation to get started on the mountainous pile of homework we have tomorrow.

Furthermore, I ate Hooters for the first time in my life today. Meh, it wasn't that good. :C Except for the mashed potatoes, which were by far the most outstanding thing we ordered. After that I got Turkish ice cream. Clarke Quay really is a pretty cool place to eat and walk around.

Apparently my dog nearly died today. (He's nearly 10.) He was pooping and peeing in his cage and refused to move for two hours. But he's okay now, which is weird. I've had him since I was 7-ish, which makes me feel really old. Just the other day I walked by a bunch of rope-jumping primary school girls... who turned out to be Sec 1. This is bad, how can I feel old at 15-going-on-16?

At least I'm nearly done with secondary school and I'll be somewhere where I'll be the baby again. It's going to be weird leaving St Nicks because 10 years is more than half my life. I can't believe I'm done with CCA already. Did three and a half years really go by so fast? It's also really weird that as of tomorrow, I only have two terms left to go in St Nicks. Albeit, the two hardest terms in my entire SN life, but still.

But Yiling, Crystal and I are going to have a mini celebration on Friday consisting of McDonalds for breakfast, Billy Bombers for lunch, Star Trek, Borders and MAC makeup. I'm probably the most excited for Star Trek (the second time around). I've been watching Chris Pine/Zachary Quinto videos. (I love how they always match) I'm almost ashamed to admit that I think ZQ is attractive... when he's sitting next to Chris Pine. What happened to the times when I thought Sylar was a Cesc Fabregas lookalike with thicker eyebrows and a larger nose?

I'm sad and surprised that Kris won (although I love him) because he'll have to do that horrible No Boundary(ies?) song. I'm also sad that I didn't get to see Scott's hot brother in the audience. ): Adam should have won, then he would have his 15 minutes of fame and fizzle out. I don't know whether to love or hate that outfit that he wore when he performed with KISS.

but uglier. The make up was kind of awesome -- he had diamantes around his eyes.

I remember I first noticed Kris in the audience when Matt G did Georgia On My Mind, and I thought he looked like Von Smith (heh). So obviously, I was rooting for him to get through to the Top 12 so there would be more eye candy. C: I also remember that Adam was the first to perform that particular episode and he sang Believe. I was like "YAY BELIEVE~~" then when I heard his screechy vocals and saw his ugly outfit I went "Uhh..."

While we were watching the final episode yesterday, Bernice commented that Kris grew leaps and bounds (Heartless! Ain't No Sunshine! Falling Slowly! She Works Hard For The Money!) and that Adam stayed stagnant the whole time. All his performances are the same -- pick a rock song and screech the last note like your life depends on it, or sit on a chair and screech softly.

My sister's classmates found out that Kris won during my PE lesson and we could hear them screaming from the track. I never knew before that so many people cared about AI. And I don't think people (aka girls my age) not liking Adam has anything to do with him being gay, I think it has to do with the fact that Kris is painfully adorable.

I finally got Killing Yourself To Live by Chuck Klosterman!

I tried ordering it from Kinokuniya first but they said their supplier didn't have the book (I found this out when they called me in class). Page One, on the other hand, told me that they would order it from overseas and it would take about 7 - 8 weeks to arrive (it came in less than 2 weeks). C:

I bought it, plus When You Are Engulfed In Flames by David Sedaris, on Saturday, paying with my brand new NETS card (yes I am slow), but I have been resisting the urge to start reading them right away, in case they mess with my memory of the patheticly horrible Whale Rider.

We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised.

(1) Gay marriage is only legal in 4 states in the US, so you can't "choose same-sex marriage" in all of America.
(2) Since there are 4 states in America that allow gay marriage, her country obviously doesn't believe that marriage should only be between a man and a woman.
(3) OPPOSITE MARRIAGE? OPPOSITE MARRIAGE? OPPOSITE MARRIAGE? Soon enough we'll be moving on to blue and pink marriages.

Cute Ang Moh Boy 1: Spotted at the Lacroix exhibition sucking on a pacifier and crawling happily towards us. (He wailed unhappily when his mom pulled him away!) He had the cutest blue eyes and the prettiest blond hair ~~, so basically Debbie was having a minor heart attack at his cutness.

Cute Ang Moh Boy 2: Pointed out The Diary of A Wimpy Kid for us when we couldn't find it in Borders. He was also blond and had blue eyes and was really helpful because we weren't even asking him where it was (he was holding a copy), we were just standing around him and going, "I can't find the book leh!"

As a huge bonus, I found Everything Is Illuminated at Kinokuniya! My life is now complete!!!!!!! I love Jonathan Safran Foer ~ Abii and I also spent a few happy hours at Borders, where I was oogling at Men's Vogue because I quite obviously love looking at male models.

So, all in all, The Day of the Cute Ang Moh Boys was one of beautiful sunshine (we took quite a few slighty-overexposed-pictures-that-I'm-hoping-I-can-fix-because-the-camera-sucks-ass), beautiful clothes and wonderful books. :)

Then, the Following Day I went to Vivo City as sister dearest was having some kind of stupid competition at Sentosa. We went for dinner at Brotzeit; we being my dad, Bernice and me because Beatrice wanted to eat at the food court, which is so unlike her disgustingly indulgent and act cool personality. We were seated at the bar at first because there were no tables which made me finally realise how cool bartenders really are (despite the ang moh bartender asking me if I wanted a beer :C ). The best part of the night? My dad waving to my mom to come in which the other ang moh waiter mistook as my dad waving him over.

Oh my. They should have kept Wesley around longer, even sans relationship. I loved his style (short shorts and rolled up blazers, mhm. If I were a gay man I would've jumped him. x.x I have no shame.) and he was by far the best looking.

PR's always so fun because of the bitchiness. (Christian Siriano had the best quotes.) I think a sure way to stay on the show is to stir up some crap or come up with funnily snarky quotes (with a dash of flamboyance). Bernice and I also love playing "Guess the degree of gayness" with the PR contestants. She has really great gaydar -- my theory is that she is actually a gay man pretending to be straight 14 year old girl. I deduce this from the fact that a lot of people in our school have suckass gaydars. Best quote: "Just because Adam Lambert is kissing a man in drag doesn't mean he's gay."

My PPR this term is going to be horrible. ):

My English is basically screwed (unless I can somehow pull a 23/25 for my compre, which is highly unlikely). My Chem is sucking ass this year (for reasons such as careless mistakes brought on misinterpretations of the questions). And my E.Lit is pretty much a goner (I got a 17/25 on an essay. Unless I can pull 20/25 for the next two essays, it's not going to happen).

If I can't get an A1 for E.Lit, then both my Lit and my English have to be A2, so I at least maintain an L1R5 of 8.

The problem is that I get so freaking discouraged when I do even badly for just one test. I need to stop being so pessimistic. But that's just the way I deal with everything. I was probably born pessimistic. ): ):

I was just reading David Levithan, and I wish I could write like him. (I wouldn't dare to dream about writing like Siken or Safran Foer because they're way too good for me to even think of being in the same league.) Levithan writes YA stuff and some of the stories in How We Met were written when he was in high school. High school --> around the age I am now. He doesn't write with the most wonderful vocabulary, but his stories are really cute and most of all, they are realistic.I'm sure if I could write like him my English marks would be okay.

I am disgusted by how much my parents favour my little sister. I've been complaining that I need a new phone since the start of the year (the buttons don't work properly anymore and my phone is literally coming apart into pieces). And guess what? She is definitely getting a new phone on Wednesday. The very same phone my other sister asked for and was denied it because "it isn't a good phone".

So I asked, "Can I get an E63?" My dad replies, "That's the old one. It's being replaced by the E66."

I did nothing today.

I could bitch about how I just sat on my ass and wasted a whole day where I could be revising or doing some god forsaken homework or getting some CIP hours (and I really do need them), but screw that, it feels so damn good. Even though Brenda Goh and Crystal couldn't make it, we still had a lot of fun eating Japanese food, looking at men's magazines and comparing their abs to Abii's (non-existent) abs, eating macarons and looking at THE Yves Saint Laurent cage shoes and the MBMJ lace up booties!

Also, we went into the Juicy Couture store, which was like entering a whole new dimension of ugly overpriced crap. Abii and I saw this woman who bought her daughter Juicy Couture over MBMJ. (gags) Why do so many rich people have such horrible taste? Just give the money to Abii and me and we'll spend it on nicer things.

ETA: Abii and I saw Denise Keller at Dome in Paragon. I first saw these bare shoulders with slicked back hair, so I thought, "Why is this man not wearing a shirt?" Then I realised the man was Denise Keller. Oops.

I can't believe I just wasted $6 on Inspiration (especially in these kinds of economic conditions). My issues with Inspiration are (1) the writing is lacklustre and uninspiring, and (2) we've never used Inspiration in class before. Even though I'm not that much better than the people who actually get their essays in Inspiration, I still don't think those essays are good. Just because you have good grammar and well constructed sentences with few or no spelling errors doesn't mean that you're a good writer.

I finally realised what it is about Adam Lambert that bugs me so much. It could be the horrible dress sense, the ugly hair or the screechy singing voice, but I think it's because that he's hiding his gayness (quite unsuccessfully). My grandma is so cute. She decided that she needed to watch the last episode of some TV show so she brought out her dinner to the living room. When my grandpa asked where she was going, she said, "Going shopping." His truly bewildered look made my day.

In other news, we did personality profiling in the motivational workshop today and I initially assumed that it would be completely and utterly wrong, but quite surprisingly it turned out to be pretty accurate. However, I just found out that everyone thinks I'm domineering, determined and decisive (and those are the good points). I want to have a hard time believing it but even I thought I would've ended up in that category. Though I suppose being a conscientious (I think I even got that in a PPR comment before!) and a pessimistic perfectionist seems to be more accurate.

Abii and I have been keeping ourselves sane through the sessions by randomly quoting the dirty dancing guys. "I'm just tying my shoe and he's just stretching, it's not a big deal!" And also running off to the library to watch Youtube videos (we have managed to find a computer that is Flash enabled and that isn't super slow like all the others) every break we get. Even a short 15 minute toilet break. Furthermore, the passageway between the MPR2 and the library is sufficiently long enough for Abii to practice her catwalk, which is always an added bonus.
